The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Golf League was established at a ceremony at Mission Hills Dongguan yesterday, with organizers announcing that the tournament will officially start in June.

A total of 32 amateur golf teams from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan will participate in the tournament, which will last for five months. This includes preliminary rounds, group stages and the finals.

The teams were pooled into two groups during a ceremony yesterday. They will have the preliminary rounds in June and July and the grand finals will be held from Oct. 14 to 15.

Han Zhishan, general manager of Mission Hills Golf Club, said he expected more teams to join the tournament during the preliminary rounds.

Han said the tournament was an upgraded one from the original Mission Hills Amateur Tour Tournament.

Wang Zhifeng, captain of the Dongguan Eagles, champions of last year’s amateur tour tournament, said his team was ready for the new challenge. “More teams, more challenges and more fun this year,” Wang said.

Wang said his team, which has a 16-year history, will try its best to face every game with determination.

The champions will receive 12 sets of guest tickets for the 2022 Mission Hills Golfathon and one black stone card from Mission Hills Haikou.

A pioneer in China’s golf industry, Mission Hills Group has held a number of amateur golf events in China. Among them, the National Amateur Golf Super League has been breaking records with its number of participants in the past years.

It has more than 50 associated courses, which cover 26 major cities in China.
