02.Exhibition Preface
In the season of golden autumn, all things thrive and come to life. Time marches on while historical and cultural achievements leave profound imprints. Reading through the myriad stamps of life, we hope that in this exhibition the audience can resonate with the artists across the different eras. Within this great realm, we can witness how the artists, through their interpretation of the "stamps," enlighten us and how they, “standing at the cutting edge of the times,” earnestly embrace the startlement and vibrancy.
Looking at the development from Classicism to contemporary art, we have not only perceived how art communicates and merges, but have also understood the impact of economic and cultural development on almost everything. Art is like a mirror, glimpsing the passing of time in the long course of history and reflecting the brilliance of the future frontier.
In the 19th century, Europe had its golden age of artistic development and was the epicenter of the art world and culture. It gave rise to movements such as Neoclassicism, Romanticism, the Barbizon School, and Realism... As we moved into the 20th century, the center of modern art shifted from Paris to New York, featuring movements, namely, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art... In contemporary art, a rising star emerges from the East...
As a pioneering city of China’s Reform and opening-up and a core engine for innovation and development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen has long been dedicated to promoting international cultural exchange and enhancing its global image and influence in the cultural field. Grounded locally and prospecting globally, Shenzhen uses the bridge of culture to foster international friendships, paving the way for a new and open paradigm.
