The Second Children’s Hospital of Shenzhen, with 1,500 beds planned, is scheduled to complete construction in June and begin trial operation in December next year, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The hospital, located in Minzhi Subdistrict in Longhua District, is currently undergoing the decoration stage.

In the hospital’s comprehensive medical building, a ward is equipped with a bathroom that has wet and dry zones, a cabinet and an independent drying box, so that each ward has its own space for drying clothes.

The thoughtful design is intended to not only solve children’s daily needs, but also ensure the building façade’s beauty.

In order to address issues such as crowded elevators and parking space shortages in large hospitals, the Second Children’s Hospital of Shenzhen has set up 72 elevators, with 30 on each floor for patients and 1,500 parking spots for motor vehicles, according to Jiao Yang, head of the hospital management department at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital.

The new hospital has also built a two-story space called Vcare featuring interactive activities aimed at easing psychological pressures of sick children and their parents.

The hospital covers over 40,000 square meters and has a floor area of about 310,000 square meters. It has 16 floors above ground and three floors underground.

The Second Children’s Hospital of Shenzhen and Shenzhen Children’s Hospital will have integrated operations and will be built into a research-oriented intelligent children’s hospital. It will also be a first-class children’s medical center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Jiao said that the hospital is expected to receive over 10,000 outpatient visits daily upon the project’s completion, which can greatly enhance the city’s supply of high-quality pediatric medical resources.
