Students from nine schools in Longhua District and the Zijin County in Guangdong’s Heyuan City elaborated on stories of Chinese youth at the Longhua District’s first foreign languages speaking contest, which wrapped up at the Longhua Cultural and Art Center on May 31. The contest was guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and hosted by Longhua District Government.

It was livestreamed on the WeChat video channel of Longhua Media Center, the Douyin and Facebook accounts of the Longhua District Foreign Affairs Office, Xinhua.net and the new media platform of SZTV, which has garnered over 1 million views. The contest was the first event in Shenzhen to go livestream on an overseas social media platform.
The contest was divided into five parts, namely, “Stargazing,”“Traditional Story,”“Sailing in the Sea of Culture,”“Together for a Shared Future,”and “Reaching for the Stars,”in which the students not only showcased their eloquence in English, but also their skills in performing martial arts, traditional Chinese music, Chinese calligraphy, and traditional operas.

First prizes of the contest went to Guangdong Heyuan Zijin Middle School, Shenzhen Minzhi Middle School Education Group Junior School and Shenzhen Longhua Xingzhi Primary School. The contest has so far received over 6,000 entries from teenagers at home and abroad.
