Smart computing and video sharing systems supported by AI (artificial intelligence) technologies have been applied across Longhua District to detect misbehavior in public places such as illegal parking, piling up sundries near litter boxes and more.

The utilization of the abovementioned AI technologies is a measure rolled out jointly by the Longhua District Publicity Department and Longhua District Government Services and Data Management Bureau to facilitate the district’s urban governance and to forage ahead with Shenzhen’s design in building itself to be counted on the list of the country’s first batch of civil paradigm cities and as one of seven national advanced cities.

Taking advantage of the technological resources of the “Smart Longhua” urban governance system and surveillance videos shared by the district’s public security, organization, and contingency management departments and subdistrict offices, the district’s data management bureau established an AI-supported smart governance and video sharing system, which contains over 70,000 cameras working on a 24/7 basis, to provide technical support to city governance.

The system can identify misbehavior in public spaces with an accuracy of over 90 percent and has thus far helped district’s urban management and law enforcement staffers and community workers handle a total of 403 cases since its launch.
