The Guanlan Ancient Market is the largest Hakka-style building complex in Shenzhen that dates back to the mid-late Qing Dynasty. With a history of over 200 years, it was once a bustling market in the Dongjiang River Basin. The market had been dubbed “Little Hong Kong” for its importance as a trade hub for businesses within the Southeast Asian region. With rich historical value and distinctive cultural characteristics, the Guanlan Ancient Market is a cultural treasure that embodies the social and economic development of Shenzhen in modern times. The market consists of Guanlan Street, Xindong Street, Maibu Street, Dongmen Street and Longgangding Street together with twelve watchtowers in its core area. There are 213 ancient buildings, including 177 shops in the market, which are of great value to the preservation of the Hakka culture and the local tourism industry.
