A community near Shenzhen North Railway Station is strengthening its capacity to serve international residents and visitors through a free English training program designed to enhance cross-cultural communication and community services.

Launched on May 19, the program is organized by the Beizhan Community Committee of the CPC and the Beizhan Community Disabled Persons' Association in Minzhi Subdistrict. The 20-session course is held weekly at the community service center and is open to community workers, residents and people with disabilities.

The initiative forms part of Beizhan Community's efforts to build a more welcoming and inclusive environment as Longhua District continues to advance the development of international communities.

The courses are taught by a TESOL-certified instructor from the United States with more than 15 years of teaching experience. The curriculum has been tailored to practical situations commonly encountered in community settings, including transportation, shopping, dining and helping visitors access local services.

In addition to language skills, participants receive training in intercultural communication, service etiquette and emergency-response communication. The program combines scenario-based exercises, reception simulations and hands-on use of digital tools to help participants develop practical communication and service skills.

Community organizers said the training is intended to address the growing demand for grassroots-level international services while strengthening the community's ability to assist residents and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The program also aims to expand opportunities for people with disabilities to improve their language skills and participate more fully in community life. By bringing together residents, community workers and special-needs groups in a shared learning environment, the initiative seeks to foster greater inclusion and social engagement.

As one of the neighborhoods surrounding Shenzhen North Railway Station, a major transportation hub in Shenzhen, Beizhan Community is working to enhance its readiness for international exchanges and improve the quality of community services through practical, people-centered initiatives.
