Residents living near Dalang Sports Park in Longhua District are enjoying quieter evenings after a community project introduced directional audio technology to reduce noise from outdoor group dancing without disrupting recreational activities.
The initiative, launched by the Party committee of Dalang Community in Dalang Subdistrict, installed seven directional speaker systems and decibel monitoring devices at the park, where multiple square-dancing groups regularly gather.

Previously, competing music from different dance groups often created excessive noise as organizers raised the volume to be heard over one another, leading to frequent complaints from nearby residents.
The newly installed speakers concentrate sound within designated activity areas instead of broadcasting it across the surrounding neighborhood. Dancers continue to hear the music clearly, while the volume drops sharply just a short distance away, minimizing its impact on nearby homes.
The project also introduced real-time decibel monitoring and a community code of conduct for public dancing. According to the community, the combination of technology and shared guidelines has reduced disputes over excessive volume and helped improve relations among different dance groups.
Community officials said the project was funded through a neighborhood improvement program designed to address residents' everyday concerns. Rather than restricting public activities, the initiative aims to balance the needs of residents seeking a quiet living environment with those using public spaces for exercise and recreation.
