Using Chinese cartoons as inspiration and English narrations as their medium, hundreds of students from over 10 primary and middle schools in Longhua District captivated a live audience of 400 attendees and countless global viewers via livestreaming during the “2024 The Voice of Chinese Youth” live show event in Longhua District on Sunday.

The event featured 14 collective narrative performances organized into five chapters, which showcased the cultural achievements and social development of China over the past 75 years. The performances, infused with the dynamism and patriotism of Chinese youth, resonated deeply with the audience and earned enthusiastic applause.

Throughout their performances, students highlighted qualities such as wisdom, courage, teamwork, helpfulness, independence, and personal growth, using classic Chinese cartoons like Black Cat Sheriff, Snow Kid, and Haier Brothers.

Shen Zelan, director of the Sports and Arts Division at the Shenzhen Longhua Qingquan Foreign Languages School, said, “Telling Chinese stories through such performances is both interesting and innovative. It not only allows us to experience the joy of animations, but also conveys China’s rich traditional culture to the world.”

The event, the first collective, multilingual, and innovative youth speech initiative launched by Longhua, is designed to share Chinese culture in other languages. Since its inception in 2021, the event has attracted over 5,000 entries from young participants of various ages each year, garnering interest from over 100,000 individuals worldwide.

In recent years, Longhua has actively fostered openness and international exchange by encouraging local colleges, universities, and primary and secondary schools to collaborate with their international counterparts, thereby promoting friendly relations between Chinese and non-Chinese youth. This past June, Shenzhen Longhua Foreign Languages School and Butuka Academy in Papua New Guinea conducted a letter exchange project, resulting in the exchange of nearly 400 letters that connected young people across continents.

The event was guided by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and was sponsored by the People’s Government of Longhua District. It was jointly organized by the Office of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Shenzhen Longhua District Committee, the Publicity Department of the CPC Shenzhen Longhua District Committee, and the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Longhua District.
