In the previous issue, we learned how to apply for a mobile phone card in China. With internet access ready, checking routes, using navigation, and hailing a ride all become much easier. Next, let's talk about how to get around Shenzhen more smoothly.
Shenzhen has a relatively comprehensive urban transport network. As long as you understand the ways of using the different modes of transport covered in this article and learn to use a map to look up routes, your daily journeys will be much easier.
In this issue, we'll take a look at how to choose the most suitable way to get around in Shenzhen.
The main transportation in Shenzhen are:
the metro, buses,
ride-hailing services / taxis,
shared bikes and walking.
Before heading out,
plan your route first,
then choose the most suitable way to travel
based on the route suggestions.

Open Amap and enter your destination. You will then see route suggestions for different modes of transport. Choose the one that best suits your needs in terms of time, distance and other factors.

For public transport QR codes, you can use mini programs in WeChat or Alipay.

You can also select your destination at the automatic ticket vending machine inside a metro station, purchase a single-journey ticket on the spot, and then enter the station to board the train.

Open DiDi: Ride Hailing in China, enter your pick-up point and destination, and you will be shown different vehicle types, estimated costs and arrival times. After choosing the option that suits you, confirm the booking and your journey can begin.

If you prefer not to use a ride-hailing app, you can also take a traditional taxi. In Shenzhen, taxis are common in areas such as airports, high-speed rail stations, business districts and hotels.

If your destination is not far away or you need to cover the "last mile" of a journey, shared bikes are a convenient and flexible option. Use the Meituan app or WeChat to scan the QR code to unlock a bike, then you can ride. After arriving at your destination, you must park the bike properly within a designated parking area.

In Shenzhen, the metro, buses, ride-hailing services, taxis, shared bikes and walking together form a convenient and diverse urban transport network. You can choose the travel mode that best suits your needs based on distance, time and other factors.Where possible, we encourage you to prioritise public transport, shared bikes and walking, so that we can all experience a more convenient and greener urban life.
