Translators Association of Shenzhen was established on 23 May 2005. It is an academic and industrial social group formed voluntarily by translators and foreign language workers in Shenzhen, and was founded by four units, namely, the Foreign Affairs Service Centre of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal Government of Shenzhen, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Press Group and Shenzhen Polytechnic College.

The business department in charge of the Association is the Foreign Affairs (Overseas Chinese Affairs) Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government. The association's purpose is to unite and organise translation agencies and translators from all walks of life in the city, actively carry out translation research and academic exchanges; improve the quality and level of translation; strengthen exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign translation circles; promote the cultivation of translation talents and team building; safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of translators; promote the prosperity and development of the translation cause in the city; and serve the local economic construction and social development.
