Hong Kong consumers can now enjoy an enhanced retail experience in approximately 30 shopping centers in Shenzhen with the convenience of using WeChat Pay HK for payments until Oct. 15.

WeChat Pay HK has recently partnered with local shopping malls to launch a monthlong consumption reward initiative. As a result of this collaboration, WeChat Pay HK has integrated its services with over 100 popular WeChat miniprograms from the mainland to offer Hong Kong consumers access to e-coupons and a range of convenient one-stop services.

The shopping malls cover almost all popular ones in Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Bao’an, and Longhua districts including KK Mall, King Glory Plaza, UpperHills, One Avenue, Coastal City, Uniwalk, and MixC.

Hong Kong residents can register for WeChat Pay HK using their Hong Kong mobile phone numbers. By utilizing the app, users can effortlessly make payments in Hong Kong dollars and eliminate the need for currency exchange when engaging in various consumption scenarios. Moreover, these transactions enjoy favorable exchange rates. The app also offers access to relevant e-coupons that can be conveniently redeemed before crossing the border between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

With the support and collaboration of the People’s Bank of China Shenzhen Central Sub-branch, the Shenzhen Local Financial Supervision and Management Bureau, the Qianhai Authority, and local commerce authorities, Tencent Group’s mobile payment platforms Tenpay.com and WeChat Pay HK have been steadily enhancing their cross-border payment services. This effort aims to expedite the integration of living circles between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

According to data from the Hong Kong Immigration Department, more than 6.24 million Hong Kong residents traveled to the mainland in August alone — an average of over 200,000 individuals per day. During the third quarter, face-to-face transactions utilizing the WeChat Pay HK service on the mainland witnessed a substantial surge, reaching nearly five times the volume recorded in the second quarter.
