As a highly anticipated annual fashion event, the ninth China (Shenzhen) International Fashion Festival recently wrapped up in Shenzhen, attracting the attention of the global fashion industry, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

As a component of the fashion industry, Shenzhen’s apparel industry boasts some 2,500 enterprises, with over 90% being self-owned brands, registering nearly 270 billion yuan (US$37.85 billion) in annual sales.

In addition, these apparel brands have gained a market share of over 60% in top-tier shopping malls in large and medium-sized cities in China.

Shenzhen’s apparel industry ranks first in the country across four key indicators: total economic output, the number of brands, market share of products, and the number of listed companies, according to the Daily report.

The release of famous designer brands was the highlight of this year’s fashion festival, which has become the fashion market’s signpost.

Designers including Ji Wenbo, Luo Zheng, Li Xiaoyan, and Deng Zhaoping, who were winners of the Jinding Award, China’s top fashion honor bestowed by the China Fashion Association, as well as renowned fashion designers such as Li Wei, Chao Lemeng, and Tong Xiaoyan brought fascinating fashion shows to the runway, showcasing Shenzhen’s fashion trends.

The festival also released the Global Fashion City Index, which was jointly developed by the Shenzhen Fashion Designers Association, China Textile and Apparel Education Society, and Shenzhen Oufang Garment Research Institute.

The top 10 global fashion cities for 2023 are New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, Shenzhen, Milan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Shanghai, according to the index.
