Longhua District has recently inaugurated its first “new industrialization” intelligent computing center, which is also one of the largest smart computing facilities in Shenzhen, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

“New industrialization” refers to the transformation of traditional industries through the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing. China has set the goal to basically achieve new industrialization by 2035.

Established through a collaboration between the district and the Shenzhen branch of China Mobile, the center aims to catalyze the digital and intelligent transformation of enterprises, and provides strong support for Longhua in building a base for the software industry.

The center will be developed in three phases. The first phase offers computing capacity of 1,000 PFLOPS, and the final phase will boast a capacity of up to 10,000 PFLOPS. PFLOPS refers to petaFLOPS, which stands for 1 quadrillion floating-point operations per second.

According to calculations, 1,000 PFLOPS is equivalent to the computational output of five Tianhe-2A supercomputers or that of 2 million mainstream laptops. Developed by China’s National University of Defense Technology, the Tianhe-2A supercomputer ranks among the world’s fastest.

The Longhua intelligent computing center is the first in South China to utilize liquid-cooling technology on a large scale, with all GPU (graphics processing unit) computing power servers adopting advanced liquid-cooling, energy-saving, and carbon reduction technologies.

Additionally, it is equipped with a power supply system with a pledged reliability rating of 99.999%, ensuring uninterrupted operation, according to the Daily.
