Piano museum opens in Longhua

The Shenzhen Longhua Piano Museum, located in the Cultural Activity Center of Bozhi Building in Longhua District, officially opened June 21.


The museum will not only exhibit a series of precious piano collections, but also undertake the mission of inheriting and innovating music culture, becoming a new cultural landmark in Longhua.

Huang Limin, head of Publicity Department for CPC Longhua District Committee, remarked that the piano museum, the first art venue of its kind in Longhua, brings elegant art into local homes. She expressed hope that the museum will use its opening as a starting point to uphold the values of openness, inclusiveness, and innovation, and to serve as a cultural bridge linking past and future, as well as local and international communities. 


At the opening ceremony, Choi Sown Le, head of the Hong Kong Piano Music Association and Macao Piano Association, performed “Ode to the Yellow River” and a selection from “Battle Against the Typhoon”. Shenzhen pianist Zou Jingyi followed with “I Love You, China” and “My Motherland”. Meanwhile, the exhibition “Vanishing and Eternal: A Grand View of Historical Pianos” opened alongside, offering visitors an epic musical journey spanning three centuries.

As one of the key cultural projects in Longhua District, the piano museum spans a total area of 5,324.82 square meters across three floors. It features 258 pianos from the personal collection of museum director Xu Jingyan, and aims to promotes the appreciation of piano art through holding exhibitions, performances, research, and educational events.


Now the largest historical piano museum in Shenzhen and even nationwide, the museum aims to become a comprehensive cultural hub, regularly hosting concerts, masterclasses and lectures to engage piano enthusiasts. It also plans to collaborate with top music institutions both in China and abroad to support the development of piano art and culture.

The museum currently holds 2,985 antique pianos and related items, all authenticated and praised by the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Appraisal Committee.
