The 2025 PCL Asia Finals, co-hosted by the Pickleball Champions League (PCL) Asia and Ramsports Group, concluded Sunday at the Ramsports Pickleball Stadium in Shenzhen’s Longhua District, marking another milestone in the sport’s rise across Asia.

Eight elite teams from across the continent gathered for two days of high-intensity matches, displaying the sport’s rapid growth in skill level, competitive depth, and international appeal.

The championship match was a spectacle of speed and strategy, as the Philippines clashed with Vietnam in a nail-biting showdown. Both sides traded leads in a fast-paced battle, but the Philippines ultimately prevailed with precise tactical adjustments and calm execution under pressure, securing a dominant 3–0 win and claiming the 2025 PCL Asia title.

Beyond the on-court drama, the finals also deepened international connections. Coaches and referees participated in PCL-led workshops on rules and technical standards, helping align officiating in Asia with global benchmarks.

Alex Yuan, president of Ramsports, said bringing the finals to Shenzhen was a strategic decision. “We wanted our domestic players and clubs to see the level of play in Southeast Asia,” Yuan told Shenzhen Daily.

“That awareness is key — it helps them understand where they need to improve for future international events. Many local players were surprised at how advanced amateur players from abroad have become, and now they’re eager to progress quickly. Not only will we keep inviting foreign players to China, but we’ll also arrange for Chinese players to travel to Southeast Asia for exchanges and learning opportunities. This is a great way to promote pickleball in China.”

For players, the event was both competitive and cultural. Filipino player Medelene Ramos-Saraza said the Shenzhen experience was memorable. “It’s my first time in Shenzhen, and my team is having so much fun. The food is great, the people are kind, and the facility is really good. We knew it would be exciting because the best players from different countries are here. We’re just happy to be here and excited to play our best.”

On Sunday afternoon, the semifinals set the stage for the final’s drama. Vietnam overpowered Team Guangzhou with sharp sideline control and lightning-fast counterattacks, while the Philippines edged out Team Hong Kong in a tense back-and-forth battle, demonstrating superior composure under pressure. Hong Kong and Guangzhou shared the bronze medal after consistent performances throughout the tournament.

For Steve Kuhn, founder of PCL, the finals were about more than competition. “What’s amazing about PCL Asia is that it’s for amateurs — for people who truly love this sport. We want these players to have a great time, share their stories, and inspire millions across China and Asia to try pickleball and fall in love with it. The growth here has been incredible — from Australia and Singapore to Malaysia, Vietnam, China, and the Philippines.”

The success of the 2025 PCL Asia Finals demonstrates that a truly international amateur pickleball circuit is taking shape in Asia. “We are planning to expand the league to more countries and cities, further fueling the sport’s momentum,” Yuan told Shenzhen Daily.
