An overseas promotion initiative featuring drone performances by Longhua-based enterprise Damoda has been selected as one of Shenzhen’s Top 10 Exemplary Cases of International Communication.

The results were announced Dec. 6 at the 4th Greater Bay Area International Communication Academic Conference held at Shenzhen University.

The selected initiative highlights multimedia coverage of Damoda’s drone shows, products, and technologies at major events — including NBA star Stephen Curry’s China tour — promoted through Longhua District’s Facebook and TikTok accounts.

To date, these posts have garnered over 100 million views worldwide, received likes from Elon Musk’s X account, and were reposted by Hua Chunying, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Damoda, headquartered in Longhua District, is a leading drone formation performance company in China. Since 2024, it has set six Guinness World Records for drone shows involving over 10,000 drones, delivered more than 10,000 performances in over 50 countries, and appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala for six consecutive years, becoming a prominent symbol of China’s technological innovation and cultural confidence.

This year’s Top 10 cases were selected from more than 100 submissions by 33 institutions — including Shenzhen News Group, Shenzhen Media Group, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Information Bureau, Nanshan Media Center, Hytera, and Honor — since the call for entries opened on Oct. 30. The submissions reflect growing collaboration between mainstream media and independent creators, as well as co-creation efforts between international and local journalists.

The event was co-hosted by Shenzhen University, the Chinese Society for the History of Journalism and Communication, the Shenzhen Research Center for Urban Communication Innovation, and the Qianhai Academy of International Communication.

With a special focus on innovative storytelling approaches against the backdrop of Shenzhen being chosen to host the 2026 APEC Summit, the conference called on international communication institutions across the city to seize this historic opportunity to better share stories of Shenzhen and China’s modernization with the world.
