Longhua District launched its 2026 Reading Week on April 19, unveiling a series of model projects aimed at promoting reading and strengthening community engagement with literature.

The opening ceremony, held at Shenzhen Book City Longhua, was themed “Reading Moves Longhua · A City of Books.” Officials introduced 10 "model reading promotion projects" designed to encourage wider public participation and expand access to literary and cultural activities across the district.

The selected projects span a range of formats, including public lectures, poetry events, community reading programs and volunteer initiatives. Among them are the “Conversations with Masters” lecture series, the Longhua Poetry Competition, neighborhood-based study rooms and storytelling programs led by volunteers.

Local authorities said the initiatives are intended to build a more inclusive and accessible reading culture by integrating literature into everyday life. The projects also aim to serve diverse groups, from students and families to working professionals, through both online and in-person activities.

Longhua District has in recent years sought to strengthen its cultural profile through sustained investment in public reading programs and cultural infrastructure. Efforts have included developing branded reading spaces, organizing large-scale literary events and expanding community-level participation.

Officials say these measures are part of a broader push to enhance cultural engagement and improve residents’ quality of life by fostering greater access to educational and cultural resources.
