Shenzhen adds 8,261 new high school seats

A total of 8,261 new positions will be available for high school students this year in Shenzhen, bringing the total number of high school seats to 95,000, according to Shenzhen high school enrollment plan 2021 released by the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau on Wednesday.


General high schools are expected to enroll 64,500 students this year, adding 5,400 public seats in total, when compared to last year.


A total of seven new public high schools will welcome their first batch of students this fall.


The seven schools are Northeast Normal University Shenzhen Affiliated School (to enroll 600 students in 12 classes) in Pingshan, Guangdong Experimental High School Shenzhen School (700 students in 14 classes) in Longgang, Experimental High School Affiliated to Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (700 students in 14 classes) in Guangming, Experimental High School Affiliated to Shenzhen University (600 students in 12 classes) in Guangming, High School Affiliated to Shenzhen Technology University (600 students in 12 classes) in Pingshan, Shenzhen Hongshan Middle School (600 students in 12 classes) and Shenzhen Gezhi Academy (600 students in 12 classes) in Longhua.


In order to meet demand for a larger high school capacity, Shenzhen also has begun to build six new private high schools. Shenzhen Meisha Bilingual School, specialized in international education, will be available to provide over 1,600 spots in total for grade-10 students this September.


The application for high school will start Tuesday.


Shenzhen plans to finish renovation and building of 30 high schools from 2020 to 2022 and will then move on to renovate and build another 25 high schools between 2023 and 2025.
