Three of the city’s ecological restoration projects along Dameisha Coastal Park, Maozhou River, and Dasha River Ecological Corridor were recently listed as model projects for ecological restoration in Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Dameisha Coastal Park, once damaged by Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, now shines again after a renovation project covering 20.07 hectares in total.

Such success was also seen in similar projects in the Maozhou and Dasha rivers.

After five years of joint efforts from Shenzhen and Dongguan, 44 blackened and noxious rivers and 304 slightly blackened and noxious water bodies in the Maozhou River were cleaned up. Additionally, the construction of greenways along the river connects Yanluo Wetland Park and Wanfeng Lake Wetland Park, making substantial ecological benefits.

Nanshan District spent over a year restoring water resources and improving the ecological environment as well as the landscape surrounding Changlingpi Reservoir’s spillway and Dasha River’s mouth that extends nearly 13.7 kilometers and covers almost 950,000 square meters. With these efforts, the Dasha River has now become the most beautiful landscape river in the city, said the report.

In another development, the Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau recently released a draft plan on ecological restoration of national land space from 2020 to 2035.

According to the plan, Shenzhen will promote the realization of a comprehensive ban on fishing in Shenzhen’s inshore waters and construction of the Dapeng Bay national marine ranch demonstration area.

Additionally, the city will set up a 872-square-kilometer land and sea ecological protection read line, ensure continental natural shoreline retention rate of no less than 40%, and designate 48 key regions for ecological protection and restoration.

The city will also build another batch of model projects for ecological protection and conservation, including work on Changlingpi Reservoir, and Bijia, Buji, Longhua and Longgang rivers.

Other works include connecting Maluan and Tiantou mountains, Meilin and Yinhu mountains, Yinhu Mountain and Bijia Hill and completing the construction of Antuo Hill Natural Art Park and renovation of Zhuzilin Ecological Corridor.
